Our guests at Bed and Breakfast O Tartufo
always ask us what our favourite beach in the area is and that question is becoming increasingly difficult to answer. Every time we discover more and more great places and beautiful beaches in the Algarve. Previously, we have shared our recommendation of Cabanas de Tavira beach
and have written about our own beach at Fuseta with the island Ilha da Armona
This time it’s Praia do Barril
's turn. This beautiful beach on the island of Tavira
(Ilha da Tavira) is accessible via a floating walkway. In order to access the beach you can walk one kilometer across the island, or you can choose to travel that distance with a small train. This train is especially nice for those on holiday with children. At the beach there are a number of shops and bars and they are open all year. The Barril Beach Cafe serves delicious smoothies and we can highly recommend their salads. In the dunes of the Barril beach locals have created a very special place: a final resting place for ships' anchors.
Barril, like almost all beaches in the East Algarve
, is a Blue Flag beach and lies within a fifteen minute drive from our B&B. After a visit to the beach you can visit the small town of Santa Luzia a few miles away and have a great lunch or dinner with delicious fresh fish. This, of course, is the subject of a future blog post!
