Beach Combing

29-01-2015 posted by O Tartufo
One of the perks of having your own Bed and Breakfast is that you get to organise and design everything yourself. We see it as a yearly challenge: on the one hand you want to offer new guests an inspiring place for their holiday and on the other hand to try and surprise returning guests.

There are of course a few things that we have to do every year. Our quinta is an old manor house and it needs constant TLC. That means that some cleaning and painting jobs are on our to’do list every winter. But, we really look forward to improving O Tartufo for our guests and to making it even more beautiful.

Living near the Atlantic ocean means that we get to find many things that wash up on the beach. Especially in winter it is nice to go beach combing after a stormy night. We collect everything we can and haul it back to our house. This year we have many ideas to create things with found driftwood, rocks and boulders. Not that we are completely sure what to do with all of these items, but the process of creating is what we enjoy most.

At the moment our garden table is stacked with things we found this week during a trip to the west coast. Many rocks and smooth boulders and sticks that have whitened by salt water. We are really happy with our finds and this immediately takes us back to those summer days when our guests return from the beach with their little treasures. Especially the beaming faces of kids when they display their finds… priceless. It always make us want to go back to the beach: what will we find next?

Here are a few images of last week:

Near Carrapateira we found many beautiful stones and bouldersLots of choice for those who like driftwood
Oceanside picknick on the west coast of the AlgarveAnd even more seashells and drift wood
